September 2018 – President’s Report

Last weekend (September 7-8) was state committee. There is a big focus on grass roots efforts. I was glad to see a few EPDC folks around taking “deminars” and enjoying the company of the candidates and elected officials. Jeremy, Cheryl and Mike Watts sat in on a candidate recruitment talk.

I asked a question: We have several school board directors up for election next year, and many of them vote well or even have been a Democrat in the past and only have registered as a Republican as a strategy to win. Do we run candidates against them if we cannot get them to switch to being a registered Democrat?  The answer was yes, run candidates against them.

LCDC is waiting until after the election to give vote builder access out to county committee members.  They argue many of them are untrained and believe it is more beneficial if they get turf from the coordinated campaign.  There are a lot of transparency questions being offered to the county officers. John Karoly, the LCDC parliamentarian said he would have a determination by the new year about the eligibility of our bylaws.

Bob Elbich, Rochelle Kaplan, Joyce Moore and myself went over to the coordinated campaign office because we have been given a lot of different information regarding how we should be working with them.  It seemed to be a consensus that working directly with Nate Keller the suburban organizer for Lehigh County with the coordinated campaign is the best use of everyone’s time.

Coordinated Campaign is located at 3900 Hamilton Blvd Suite 101 Allentown, across from Dorney Park.  They are opened from 10-6pm and Tues and Thurs they are open until 8:30pm for phone banking.

You can phone bank at the office or at home.

They will give you walking list to do at your convenience and where ever you would like to walk.

When you volunteer for the coordinated campaign, you work for every candidate all at once!  Casey, Wolf, Fetterman, Wild, Pinsley and whichever state house candidate is in your targeted list.

The Wild campaign is not legally allowed to work for other campaigns.  They are trying to do some work arounds but questions for other candidates will not be on their lists officially.

It is best to volunteer with the coordinated campaign!

EPDC is planning to host phone banks at the coordinated campaign on Tues evenings.

John Boyle and others are determining ways we can utilize the money we raised for GOTV in coordination with the coordinated campaign.  So far, we are likely to do text messages through the mobile ballot like we have the past 2 cycles and we may team up to purchase GOTV down ballot literature.
